Draw on your creativity. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced artist wanting to refine your skills, this class offers a supportive and inspiring environment for all levels. Explore different techniques, experiment with various mediums, and watch your artistic abilities flourish. You will work on composition starting with still life, then move onto your own project.

Course Details

A four week course

This course is suitable for beginners.

Overall Goals:
– Develop foundational botanical drawing skills, emphasizing accurate observation and depiction of plant forms.
– Encourage creativity and build confidence in students artistic abilities.
– Create a supportive environment tailored to individual skill levels and artistic interests.

List of materials:
Drawing materials:
Pencils: graphite from 3B to 4H, or charcoal hard/medium/soft, or any pencil you have
Knife or sharpener: for sharpening
Erasers: plastic and kneaded eraser
Paper: Sketch paper or printing paper, preferable a sketch book to keep record of your art
journey
Tracing paper (or baking paper instead)
Watercolour materials:
Watercolour paper (or pad, or block), smooth, 300gsm (140Ib) or more
Watercolour paints, students’ or artists’ quality, in tube or pans, 12 colours set would be fine. If
buy individually, at least 3 tubes or pans – yellow, blue and red
A palette or a dinning plate – white colour
A bottle or any container for washing brushes
An old rag or tea towels to dap dry brushes
Brushes: good quality brushes would make your learning process more enjoyable. Variety of
brush shapes and sizes to achieve different level of detail. For this class, we will use round brush
size 0, 4 and 6.

Tutor

Jenny Lee is a Waiheke based artist, specialising in botanical art but who is also interested in portrait
and landscape painting. She prefers working in watercolours (botanic) and oils (portraits and
landscapes).
Jenny is a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Art (London) graduating with distinction with an SBA Distance Diploma, with the qualification of DipSBA (Dist).
Jenny participates in local, national and international exhibitions and competitions, and has won numerous awards and has a number of collectors in New Zealand and overseas. Her paintings have been featured in several international publications – and the local Gulf News.
Fellow SBA, member of the New Zealand Botanical Artists Society (BASNZ), member of the Waiheke Community Art Gallery, member of New Zealand Chinese Academy Calligraphy & Painting.
Jenny and her husband live at Onetangi, where she finds serenity and inspiration in her studio, amidst bird song, flowers and music, cherishing the blessings of each day.
