This course is for those interested in acquiring basic botanical drawing skills, using the flora of Waiheke as subjects, which

Overall Goals:
Develop foundational botanical drawing skills, emphasizing accurate observation and depiction of plant forms.
Encourage creativity and build confidence in students artistic abilities.
Create a supportive environment tailored to individual skill levels and artistic interests.
Materials
Provided:
300gsm HP 100% cotton watercolour paper
Additional test sheet (same paper as above)
Sketch paper
Transfer paper
Please bring:
2B, 4B, 2H and 4H pencil (sharpened)
Eraser and kneaded eraser
Round watercolour brushes (sizes 2–8 recommended)
Watercolour palette
Watercolour paints (artist quality preferred). We will use four colours:
o Hansa Yellow Light or Lemon Yellow
o Winsor Red or another bright red
o Quinacridone Magenta or a violet
o Phthalo Blue (Red Shade) or French Ultramarine
Paper towel or rag
Tape
Who is this workshop for?
Beginners are warmly welcome, as well as those wishing to refresh skills from previous botanical
drawing classes.
No prior experience needed — just bring your enthusiasm!
Outcome
By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a completed watercolour painting and feel more
confident in your drawing and painting skills.
Jenny Lee is a Waiheke based artist, specialising in botanical art but who is also interested in portrait
and landscape painting. She prefers working in watercolours (botanic) and oils (portraits and
landscapes).
Jenny is a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Art (London) graduating with distinction with an SBA Distance Diploma, with the qualification of DipSBA (Dist).
Jenny participates in local, national and international exhibitions and competitions, and has won numerous awards and has a number of collectors in New Zealand and overseas. Her paintings have been featured in several international publications – and the local Gulf News.
Fellow SBA, member of the New Zealand Botanical Artists Society (BASNZ), member of the Waiheke Community Art Gallery, member of New Zealand Chinese Academy Calligraphy & Painting.
Jenny and her husband live at Onetangi, where she finds serenity and inspiration in her studio, amidst bird song, flowers and music, cherishing the blessings of each day.
