Practical AI with Petri Coetzee

A three week course

Tuesdays 6pm to 8pm
8 September to 22 September

Practical AI for Everyday Work, Learning and Creativity is a beginner-friendly, hands-on course for adults who want to understand and use tools like Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini with more confidence.

Across three practical sessions, participants will learn what generative AI can and cannot do, how to write better prompts, how to check AI outputs for accuracy and bias, and how to build simple AI workflows for writing, learning, planning, admin, small business and creative tasks. No technical background is needed. The focus is plain-English, useful, safe and realistic AI skills people can keep using after the course.

$120 Standard Price
$108 Community Services Card
$60 Youth (ages 16 – 24)

This three-session course introduces generative AI in a practical, accessible way. Learners will try common AI tools, practise prompting, compare weak and strong prompts, and learn how to improve outputs through follow-up questions and clear context. We will cover everyday uses such as drafting and editing emails, summarising information, planning projects, creating checklists, supporting learning, brainstorming ideas and building simple workflows.

The course also includes an important focus on judgement and responsible use. Participants will learn where AI is useful, where it is risky, and how to check outputs before relying on them. Topics include privacy, accuracy, bias, copyright basics, confidential information, and when to stop and ask a person instead.

By the end of the course, each participant should leave with:
- a simple understanding of what generative AI is
- a prompt recipe they can reuse
- confidence using AI for low-risk everyday tasks
- a practical workflow relevant to their own work, study, business, community role or personal projects
- a safety checklist for using AI responsibly
