Waiheke Adult Learning has worked alongside BCITO supporting apprentices with building theory for since 2006. We work to a learner centred model that has been developed through collaboration with apprentices.
Off-Site Building & Construction Training is a building theory course covering the skills required when working in the building and construction industry. The course is taught in six blocks and covers key skills areas,
- Construction methods
- Safety, tools and scaffolding
- Documentation and contracts
- Site preparation
- Formwork and concrete
- Large Structures
Within these topic areas are a number of focussed subjects such as floor and wall framing, pile foundations and retaining walls which are taught by fully qualified builders and tutors in blocks of six weeks.
As well at theoretical training, there is an opportunity to apply skills in a practical setting.
Off-Site Building & Construction Training supports employers who may be training BCITO apprentices and complements the theory required for qualification.
