NZ Sign Language is the language used by people within the Deaf Community. In this course you will gain a general understanding of the Deaf community and their culture, identity and sign language.  Level 1A is suitable for people beginning their learning of Sign Language.

Course Details

NZ Sign Language is the language used by people within the Deaf Community and one of the 3 official languages of Aotearoa/New Zealand. In this course you will gain a general understanding of the Deaf community and their culture, identity and sign language. NZSL is a visual-gestural language which conveys ideas by signs, facial expressions, body language and lip patterns.  It has its own grammar, rules and sentence structure which are different from English or Maori.

Tutor

Susan works as a primary school teacher at Te Huruhi on Waiheke Island. She is also a member NZ Sign Language Teachers Association and a hearing sign language tutor. Susan is a passionate advocate for the learning of NZ Sign Language and enjoys opening up the world of this fascinating language to people from all walks of life.
