Tutor

Sonja has studied photography in London and always worked in the photography industry. This has seen her working as an assistant picture editor for Cosmopolitan Magazine, assisting numerous photographers in U.K, AU and NZ and her own photography work for a variety of clients. She met her Kiwi husband on her travels and he brought her here in 1999 to see in the new millennium. Staying for two and a half years they then went back to live in London before returning to the shores of Waiheke four years ago with three kids in tow.

They love the laid back lifestyle and the kids love not wearing shoes, something that would never happen in London! Sonja’s wide variety of photography skills has gained the attention of the local market and she is regularly photographing food, fashion, and still-life as well as weddings and portraiture.

Her teaching skills have been put to the test by teaching the teenage photography club at Waiheke Library for the past two and a half years. She offers an easy manner and in-depth knowledge of her industry.

“I shoot good honest photography with beauty and strength. In bringing so many elements together with control, but also knowing when to let the subject be free and real. My work spans across fashion, lifestyle, kids, still-life and food photography, editorial and advertising”

She has two websites www.sonjaread.com and www.trilbyandlace.com and is a member of the AIPA.
