Home Based Learning

Waiheke Adult Learning is pleased to announce we are now able to support adults to complete home-based learning qualifications here on Waiheke, thanks to a new partnership with the Open Wananga and Literacy Aotearoa.

What is home based learning?

This is learning from home rather than at a campus where you attend classes.  It gives you the flexibility to fit study around your other commitments including family, work or recreational activities.  Open Wānanga programmes provide you with a kaitiaki (support person) who supports you while you study.  Enrol through Waiheke Adult Learning and we can provide you with a Waiheke-based support person.

We provide the following courses in this programme:

Mahi Toa – A free home based part time programme that is designed to prepare you for employment, a promotion or a career change.  It will give you the motivation, knowledge, skills and the right attitude to get a job and build your future.

Papa Ako – A supported ‘learning to learn’ programme, for students who are considering tertiary training for the first time or those who haven’t studied in a while.

Papa Whairawa – A supported financial literacy programme.  It has been designed to give you the knowledge and skills to help make smart decisions about your money.

All the programmes offered lead to  NZQA-recognised Level 1 qualifications.
